November 9th – Thursday, and eleventh – Saturday in Shanghai:
Dennis and I left at midnight from LA on Asiana Airlines – on a fourteen hour flight by means of Seoul, Korea — Incheon Airport – and on to Shanghai – Pu Dong Airport. With a 3 hour layover in Seoul -we 1st acquired a glimpse of the Asian society, and walked the extended corridor of the Duty Cost-free Stores and stopped in the Wendy Café for latte and tea. When we landed in Shanghai – Mr. Gao Mim fulfilled us – with a sign that Ai advised me to see – with huge letters saying “Dennis and Joan, Welcome to Shanghai”. Pleasant to have Mr. Go – who works for Kobayashi San – and Lilly, who is Chinese – satisfy us and spirit us away. Our baggage went by automobile to the resort – and Dennis, Lilly and I rode the Maglev from the airport to the west side of Shanghai – a practice that expense nine billions to develop by the Chinese Authorities and flew to a highest of 424 Kilometers above the seven minute journey. They said that it would consider 45 minutes by car – with the traffic in the Town – to cross from the river and attain our lodge. An Australian sat across from us – and we marveled at the whiz of the prepare – and the instantaneous zip of a practice passing in the other direction. Off the train and into a cab to the hotel, the Ramada situated in the western facet, Pu Xi – the previous component – among the People’s Sq. and the Bund – the waterfront at the Huangpu River. The four of us enjoyed a late lunch in the restaurant, Nan Xinya, on the fourth flooring of the hotel – with the round serving in the middle of the table stuffed with Cantonese flavors – including a fried fish with a red sauce – delicious. Dennis and I napped – and went for a extended walk down the Nanjing Rd – the pedestrian avenue behind the hotel – to the Bund – and liked the array of colorful lights down the street and on the waterfront – and the blue boat that sailed across our see. It was a beautiful night time – and the extended stroll back again took us to the People’s Sq. – when we realized that we would long gone way too significantly and retraced our actions. We slept like infants on the firm mattress with the coverlet – and had been welcomed to China.
November 12th – Sunday in Shanghai:
We woke to a misty sky – and prepared to meet Lilly at 9AM – and 1st appreciated breakfast in the hotel. Lilly took us in the early morning to Metropolis God Temple Bazaar – and the Yu Yard. The Yard was the property of Mr. Pan, developed in 1559, in the Ming Dynasty. Backyard garden in China contains the trees, vegetation, rock and properties – and is the home in which character is brought in to be knowledgeable in the dwelling. We walked the path and by way of the Chinese constructions – close to the pools – by way of the gateways – and enjoyed the attractiveness of the development, the many turning paths, the circular entry ways – the rocks from the bottom of the Taihu Lake (one of the five biggest refreshing drinking water lakes) with several interesting designs from the erosion of the h2o – piled high – and occasionally with a “tower of happiness” in the clouds (on the rocks) and Exquisite Jade Stone. Five dragon walls, dragons with a few fingers (for regular men and women) – a pearl in the dragons mouth – and 1 with a frog in a sympiotic connection – and tails that ripple the walls leading down the paths. All around the corner, we exited the Garden into the numerous shops – and entered the Silk Manufacturing facility – to see how the silk work spins itself in silk thread inside its cocoon – and is cooked and put in h2o so that with a brush the girls can stir the cocoons and uncover the silk threads. Then six or eight threads are spun collectively to make the beautiful silk thread – and we saw the bedding and outfits that are typically produced from the good silks of China. Previously, just before coming into the Garden – we noticed the Nan Xiang Dumpling Cafe with a long line, and Lilly advised us about the yummy crab and pork dumplings. Soon after some buying in the office shop – and searching at pearl, jade and treasured stones in jewelry – we tried the dumplings, with a bit of ginger inside – and they ended up delicious. We returned to acquire a silk blanket and cover in the Silk Manufacturing facility – and they even had “California king”. We hurried by taxi to return to the resort – because Kobayashi San and Gao San had been ready for us for some lunch.
The firm van – Fukuoka Knit Firm, Kobayashi San’s company – took us throughout town – sights of the streets of the Town, the tall apartment properties, the theater and business office structures for this Town of 16 million men and women. We traveled to the Hong District, close to the Embassies, such as the Japanese Embassy. The cafe was Chizhen in Hong Qiao – and we dined in a small space – and ended up astonished by the array of foodstuff on the spherical glass serving piece in the centre of the desk – and such as the shark fin soup (expensive and a delicacy in China). We modified the ideas for the afternoon – excellent alter – and from the hotel walked up the Nan Jing to Shu Ya Liang Zi – a standard Chinese therapeutic massage – on the eighth floor – and all 5 of us sat in the space each in our possess reclining chair – with scorching h2o at our ft – and then the foot massage, deeply baring into our feet – and ear cleansing, much to our shock. We were properly rested and massaged and returned to the resort, happily – and Dennis and I stopped in Yong An – the section keep – and I liked getting “hair toys” to hold my hair in place – and the lady who confirmed me how to do this. Lilly taught us to say “Bu Ya Xie Xie” (no thanks) to all the suppliers who had been trying to offer us fakes, watches and purses. And also, Bu Xie (thank you). And “Ni Hao” (Mandarin for Hello). That night time we dressed and went to the Ritz Carlton to the Acrobat Present and to the Grape’s Backyard on Xinle Rd. for evening meal – and had our 1st style of the Chinese delicacy of “river crab”. Dennis and I necessary some lessons on how to take in this, and that the part in the middle is regarded the greatest. It is all exciting and a rare expertise to be so generously hosted by men and women who know Shanghai and it lifestyle, and an addition to my Rotary GSE encounter in Japan with several pals there.
